Micron, one of the world’s leading memory manufacturer, annonuced today the first 2.5″ solid state drive featuring a PCIe interface. Indeed an impressive product that can easily be deployed in the front end of an enterprise server.
Micron and Dell are supporting the adoption of 2.5″ drives for server use. The 2.5″ PCIe SSD hasn’t been named yet, but Micron claims it’s a shrinked version of the P320h PCIe SSD with half the capacity – 175GB and 350GB – and PCIe 4x interface.
These drives can be used in the latest Dell Power Edge 12th generation servers, that supports SATA, SSD and PCIe drives. System adminstrators will appreciate this versatility.
Price and release date aren’t available yet, although AnandTech suggests the cost per GB will be over $16. For now, Micron is providing samples to interested customers.

On photo is SAS device – not PCIE
It may seems a SAS device, but actually has a PCIe interface.
I think the following graph could be quite explicative: http://www.storagereview.com/images/Enterprise-SSD-Form-Factor-1.JPG
If you look at the photo, you’ll notice the indication “PCIe Gen 2″ on the drive upper side.
The drive picture has been taken from the official Micron’s media kit. So I’m pretty sure it’s correct
Thank you for your comment, anyway
