OCZ finally released the Z-Drive R4 CloudServ, its PCI Express SSD solution tailored for cloud infrastructures. The drive is powered by SandForce SF-2581 controllers and MLC NAND ICs. It’s available in 800GB, 1.6TB, 3.2TB and 6.4TB capacities.
The maximum throughput of this unit is simply astonishing: up to 6,000 MB/s and 1,400,000 IOPS. Interestingly enough, power consuption is pretty high, ranging from 40W to 70W.
TRIM, data encryption (128-bit and 256-bit) and data protection – ECC and parity check – are supported.
The Z-Drive R4 CloudServ is an impressive unit for cloud server use. Obviously, this is not the kind of drive you can put in your home PC like the RevoDrive. Prices aren’t released yet but I suppose they are pretty high. Nice one, OCZ..
